When to Get a Thyroid Test

Your thyroid serves the important function of controlling your metabolism, your heart rate, and even your growth rate. When you promote ideal thyroid health, you are able to keep a hormone balance that positively impacts your overall health. Chronic low thyroid disease can lead to a number of other health problems including heart disease, insulin resistance, arthritis and inflammation, and Alzheimer’s disease. You may have an issue with your thyroid if you have experienced:

  • Cold body temperature
  • Fatigue
  • Hair loss
  • A tendency to gain weight
  • Dry skin
  • Low sex drive
  • Brain fog
  • Poor sleep

The two major types of thyroid hormones are T4 and T3, the most active forms. Thyroid hormones tend to increase metabolism, energy production and consumption, speed of thinking, and HDL (the good lipid). Thyroid hormones tend to decrease LDL (the bad cholesterol). If you are low on energy, this is a likely place to start looking for answers. Most women who seek thyroid related care, will often be tested using a blood sample. Although many conditions can be diagnosed from a blood examination, it is difficult to test for thyroid issues, as the thyroid does not have any direct effect in your blood. Instead, a thyroid test must be centred on the thyroid’s ability to function properly.

At Happy Hormone Cottage, we use a number of tools to properly thyroid test. For thyroid clients, we provide a 10 point blood panel and a Thyroflex machine to measure dosing. This method is results-driven causing our clients to actually feel better, opposed to a blood diagnosis that provides inadequate medications that do little to treat a thyroid problem. Additionally, we provide clients with resources like adrenal support supplements that heal adrenal glands, and offer a successful Hashimoto Protocol:

  1. Thyroflex

As an FDA approved and non-invasive procedure, the Thyroflex is painless, quick, and accurate. The Thyroflex measures the function of the thyroid, often women who have received a thyroid test from a blood sample read as normal. Later, these same women receive a Thyroflex evaluation, and are reported as having low thyroid function. Correctly testing for thyroid conditions is extremely important to your overall health.

  1. Hashimoto Protocol

The longer Hashimoto goes untreated, the more of the thyroid gland is destroyed. Normal thyroid medications do not help this condition, because the root problem in a person’s autoimmune response is ignored. This is why Hashimoto’s must be treated as an autoimmune disease and not a thyroid disease. At Happy Hormone Cottage, we treat Hashimoto’s with a 90-day protocol that targets gut health to regulate immune response, and supports thyroid function. Clients are prescribed supplements, natural thyroid medication (if needed), and a gluten-free diet.

If you’re experiencing health problems like fatigue or brain fog it is crucial to receive a thyroid test and prevent future, more serious conditions. Book a consultation with our Happy Hormone Cottage medical professionals to learn more.
